Job Title: Venue Team Member (Student only role)

Reporting to: Venue Manager and Assistant Venue Manager(s)

Place of Work: A York University Students’ Union Venue (On UOY campus)

Contract: Casual Fixed Term - 13th May 2024 – 7th June 2024

This contract requires you to complete 4 weeks of induction training to provide you with sufficient knowledge and practical skills to fulfil this role.This induction training is reviewed as part of your probationary review. .

All team members that pass their probation induction are then offered early opportunity to apply for vacancies available in the next academic year. FYI The 24/25 contracts will run from 9th Sept ‘24 - 7th June ‘25 and applicants must be available to start from the 9th Sept.

Hours of Work: The contract is set up on annualised hours - working 2 shifts a week.

The hours available may vary from week to week but work out as an average of 10 hour per week in Courtyard, Glasshouse & Vanbrugh Arms or 8 hours per week at Kitchen @ Alcuin - during the semester time only and zero hours during the vacation periods.

Applicants must be able to work days, evenings and weekends.

(During induction/training weeks, Welcome week or Roses, team members are required to work a minimum of 3 shifts - approx 15 (or) 12 hours per week).

Salary: £12.00 per hour (we pay student staff the real living wage)

Closing date: Monday 8th April 2024 at 5pm

Interviews: Commencing Monday 15th April 2024

About the Role:

The Venue Team Member role is here to provide a welcoming, friendly, and positive experience at all our campus based venues. The role is fundamental to the success of the organisation and key to ensuring the union connects with the existing student population at the University of York. 

We are looking for fun and dynamic individuals to become part of our Commercial Venues Team, based at one of 4 University of York Student’s Union venues; Courtyard, Vanbrugh Arms, Glasshouse, Kitchen @ Alcuin, and you will also support events at The Lounge and D-bar or elsewhere on campus.Your role will be to provide a great consistent customer service, serving food and drink and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment to our student community.

  • To assist in the preparation and service of food and drinks.
  • .To assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the work area at all times.
  • To assist in the provision of a friendly and safe environment for both customers and other staff.
  • To handle financial transactions with diligence and honesty in accordance with the company policies and procedures.
  • To complete any training that is relevant to your role.
  • To support colleagues at peak times with any reasonable task asked of you by your manager.
  • To cooperate with the manager and work well as part of the team.
  • To adhere to company policy with every interaction with customers in the work space.
  • To comply with all legal policies and procedures , including all licensing, food safety and health & safety laws and policies..
  • Proactively participate in staff meetings and reviews, training and development actions as requested by your line manager.
  • Work in accordance with our staff handbooks procedures and policies.
  • Maintain all company property including any uniform provided.
  • To complete any reasonable additional task requested by your manager to support the running of the venue.
